Principal Message

Welcome to Springdale K–8!

I am honored to serve as principal of a school and community that feel so close to home. I was born and raised in Valley, Washington, and my career in education has taken me through the Newport, Seattle, and Spokane School Districts. I am now beginning my 9th year in the Mary Walker School District, and I remain incredibly proud to serve the students and families of Springdale.

Outside of school, I enjoy skiing, hiking, climbing, traveling and building projects. Most importantly, I value time with my family. These interests remind me of the importance of curiosity, perseverance, creativity, and strong relationships—qualities we work to foster in every student.

At Springdale K–8, we celebrate the growth and success of the whole child. We want our students to develop academically, socially, and emotionally while discovering their interests and building confidence. Our goal is for every student to feel known, supported, challenged, and proud of their progress.

Our school is greater than our building. Its strength comes from the students, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners who invest their time, talents, and resources in our children. We are grateful for the many people and organizations that help provide meaningful opportunities and create a strong sense of belonging throughout our community.

Our staff is deeply committed to continuous improvement through our Professional Learning Community—or PLC—work. Teachers and support staff collaborate regularly to study student learning, share effective practices, respond to individual needs, and ensure that every student has opportunities to grow. This work reflects our shared belief that we achieve more for students when we learn and work together.

I believe strong schools are built on trust, communication, high expectations, and genuine care. I invite families and community members to stay connected, ask questions, celebrate successes, and partner with us throughout the year.

At Springdale K–8, our message is simple: You belong here. We care.

I look forward to working alongside you and celebrating the accomplishments of our students.

Sincerely,
Brett Joachim, K–8 Principal
